SunCon was recognised for adhering to high standards of Corporate Governance (CG) at the prestigious Minority Shareholders Watch Group (MSWG) - ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards 2019, for the fourth consecutive year. SunCon clinched the Industry Excellence Award 2019 for the Construction category and ranked 10th in the list of Top 100 companies for overall CG & Performance in 2019 for adopting and disclosing best corporate governance practices and processes. Due to COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures on prohibitions of mass gatherings, the award trophy was personally presented by MSWG Chief Executive Officer, Mr Devanesan Evanson to SunCon Group Managing Director, Mr Chung Soo Kiong at a private ceremony held in Menara Sunway on 30th September 2020.​

SunCon’s 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was conducted virtually as part of the Company’s necessary precaution to safeguard the wellbeing of its shareholders amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual meeting was broadcasted live from Menara Sunway and shareholders were able to follow the proceeds via live streaming as well as participate and vote online.​

SunCon continued to remain as a constituent in the FTSE4Good Index series for the sixth consecutive year following a review in June 2020. SunCon has been listed in the authoritative index since 2015, meeting the inclusion criteria for demonstrating strong Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) practices measured against globally recognised standards. The repeated successful inclusion in FTSE4Good demonstrates SunCon’s strong commitment to sustainability.

SunCon was recognized with a bronze award at the 5th Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ASRA) 2019 in the category “Asia’s Best Sustainability Report within Annual Report”. This marks the second consecutive year that SunCon has won in this category at the prestigious ASRA Awards, which recognizes and honours sustainability reporting leaders in Asia. The award ceremony was hosted virtually from Singapore this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and was graced by the appearance of the Guest of Honour, H.E. Mr Niclas Kvarnström, the Swedish Ambassador of Singapore. The winners were selected out of 461 entries received from 16 countries in Asia following a rigorous multi-tier evaluation process. The award reflects SunCon’s leadership in sustainability reporting, transparency and our commitment towards long term value to stakeholders.

Best Area Champion (Onshore Construction) - Leadership on Area Based Demarcation (LeAD) Programme

SunCon’s Petronas Leadership Centre project was awarded with the Best Area Champion (Onshore Construction) in the Leadership on Area Based Demarcation (LeAD) Programme, for achieving the highest score of 92.2% in Quarter 4 Project Delivery & Technology (PD&T) Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Assessment.

The award, organized by the client, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) on a quarterly basis, is an incentive and recognition to contractors for their HSE performance and collaboration in instilling PETRONAS HSE culture in the Project through series of campaigns, effective HSE programs and active HSE leadership.

Sunway Engineering Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of SunCon, won the Best Mechanical & Electrical Contractor award at the Construction Industry Trade Awards (CITA) 2019. The CITA Awards 2019 is an inaugural effort by the Master Builders Association of Malaysia (MBAM) to recognise organisations which have contributed and demonstrated excellence in enhancing the image, performance and improvement of the construction industry in their respective fields of expertise. The award was presented by Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources, YB. Dr. Xavier Jayakumar and received by Mr Vignesh Perumal, Sr Manager - Project Operations on behalf of Sunway Engineering Sdn Bhd at MBAM’s 65th Anniversary Dinner on 16 August 2019 at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.
